Terms & Conditions
Last updated: 28 September 2026
1. About these terms
These Terms & Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the UnifiedPay website, dashboard and API (together, the "Service"). By creating an account, linking a payment account or calling the API, you agree to these Terms. If you are accepting on behalf of a business, you confirm that you are authorised to bind that business.
2. The Service
UnifiedPay lets businesses request M-Pesa payments from their customers using STK Push (Lipa na M-Pesa Online). You link your own Paybill, Till Number, or Bank / SACCO account, and UnifiedPay sends payment requests on your behalf through Safaricom's Daraja API.
- Paybill: payments are sent to your paybill. The
referencein each API request is used as the M-Pesa account number. - Till Number: payments are sent to your till (Buy Goods).
- Bank / SACCO: payments are sent to the institution's paybill, with your account or member number as the M-Pesa account number on every payment.
Customer payments go directly to the paybill, till, or bank / SACCO account you link. UnifiedPay does not hold, redirect or take a share of your customers' payments.
3. Your account
- You must give accurate registration details and keep them up to date.
- You are responsible for everything done with your login, your consumer key and your consumer secret. Keep them confidential and tell us immediately if you think they have been exposed.
- You may only link paybills, tills, and bank / SACCO accounts that you own or are authorised to collect payments into.
4. Subscription fees
- Each linked payment account costs KES 300 for 30 days of service.
- Subscription fees are paid by M-Pesa to Paybill 4325501 from your dashboard.
- A newly linked account is inactive until its subscription is paid. When a subscription expires, the account stops accepting new payment requests until it is renewed.
- Renewing an active account adds 30 days from its current expiry date.
- Subscription fees are non-refundable, except where the law requires otherwise or where we fail to provide the Service because of our own fault.
- We may change the fee with at least 30 days' notice. Changes apply from your next renewal.
5. Acceptable use
You must not use the Service to:
- collect payments for illegal goods or services, gambling without a licence, or any fraudulent purpose;
- pretend to be another person or business, or collect payments in another organisation's name without its permission;
- send payment requests to people who have not agreed to pay you, or send repeated unwanted requests;
- interfere with, overload or try to get unauthorised access to the Service or Safaricom's systems.
You must also comply with Safaricom's M-Pesa terms and all applicable Kenyan laws, including the National Payment System Act and the Data Protection Act, 2019.
6. Suspension
To protect customers and the Service, an account is automatically suspended when more than 20 of its payment requests have failed or been cancelled. We may also suspend or close an account that breaches these Terms, that we reasonably suspect of fraud, or where Safaricom or a regulator requires it. A suspended account cannot send payment requests or be renewed until the matter is resolved. Contact support@unifiedpay.co.ke to request a review.
7. Callbacks
If you set a callback URL, we send payment results to it and sign each request with your consumer secret. You are responsible for securing your endpoint and verifying signatures. Always confirm a payment with the status endpoint or your M-Pesa statement before releasing high-value goods. Failed callbacks are not retried automatically, but you can resend them from your dashboard.
8. Data and privacy
We process the information needed to run the Service: your account details and, for each payment, the customer's phone number, amount, reference and M-Pesa receipt. We use it only to provide and secure the Service, to meet legal obligations and to resolve disputes. We do not sell it. You are responsible for having a lawful basis to share your customers' details with us.
9. Availability and liability
- The Service depends on Safaricom and other third parties. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability and are not responsible for M-Pesa outages or delays.
- You are responsible for reconciling payments against your own M-Pesa, paybill, till or bank statements.
- To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim is limited to the subscription fees you paid in the three months before the claim arose. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including lost profits.
10. Ending your use
You can stop using the Service at any time by deleting your linked accounts. Deleting an account immediately disables its API credentials and removes its transaction history from your dashboard. Unused subscription time is not refunded.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms. We will post the new version on this page with a new "Last updated" date and, for significant changes, notify you by email. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept them.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Kenya, and the courts of Kenya have jurisdiction over any dispute.
